December 3, 10, 17, 2024: Successful completion of the TEAM Initial Reviewer Training will enable participants to review TEAM reflection papers and projects to determine if there is sufficient evidence to successfully meet the TEAM module criteria. The training will consist of 3 two-hour facilitated online sessions and pre-work for each session. IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION: In order to successfully complete the training, participants must complete all pre-work and session activities in the order of presentation. “[Adult learners] struggle because we don’t offer them sufficient opportunities in the classroom to develop the cognitive skills and habits of mind that would prepare them to take on more advanced academic tasks.”—Culturally Responsive Teaching and The Brain: Promoting Authentic Engagement and Rigor Among Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students (Hammond, 2014)

How can we develop these skills and habits in our adult learners? Explore a flexible math unit that uses puzzles and questions with multiple solution paths to engage students in learning about properties of numbers and operations, the meaning of equality, and the power of place value. This unit also builds foundational concepts for algebra: specifically, it lays the groundwork for formal learning about properties, inverse operations, and solving equations. In addition, it can be easily taught in a variety of settings, including corrections programs and/or sites without internet access. Leave with access to the entire unit of instruction.

This resource is one of several reviewed by members of the Standards-in-Action Math Team using the Mathematics Resource Alignment Tool with EL Supports. A portion of the session will be dedicated to reviewing the resource’s alignment to CCR Standards and studying the tool.

Initial Support Teacher Training   
This 3-day (January 30, February 6, 13, 2025) virtual training prepares individuals, who have been selected by their districts, to be mentors who will support beginning and student teachers. Training is based on Connecticut’s Common Core of Teaching (CCT), which articulates the foundational standards for all teachers in Connecticut and is linked by state law and regulations to requirements across a teacher’s career including educator preparation, induction, evaluation and professional learning. Participants will focus on coaching skills needed to help beginning teachers become reflective practitioners and learn how to provide support to new teachers through instructional modules. This virtual training includes approximately 2 days of learning over the course of:- Three 2-hour synchronous (live) learning sessions- Asynchronous pre-work learning tasks that can be completed at your own pace prior to each synchronous (live) session.
