This on-demand training builds on the foundational understanding built during CCRS ELA 101. Participants will review the CCR Standards and review the key instructional shifts. This on-demand training will introduce you to the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) for Adult Education - a set of academic standards that, when met, prepare adult learners for success in college, technical training program(s), and the workforce. You will become familiar with the standards and how to navigate them in this session. We will investigate the Key Instructional Shifts mathematics instruction must make for adult learners to succeed. The importance of taking the time to delve deeply into the concepts at the heart of mathematics will be illustrated. By making connections between mathematical concepts, activities will encourage ways to see mathematics as more than discrete sets of rules to be memorized. You will leave with a deeper understanding of how to use standards when planning math instruction.

Welcome to CCRS Math 102 - Standards for Mathematical Practice. As part 2 of a 2-part. This training builds on work done in CCRS Math 101. Participants will experience problems worth puzzling through and analyze the habits of mind required to solve those problems. We will investigate four of the Standards of Mathematical Practices through activities that illustrate the ways students engage with the subject matter of the content standards. The skills of complex problem-solving, reasoning and proof, precise communication, representing problems, seeing patterns, and making connections will be practiced and discussed.

We want our learners prepared to earn their high school credential and develop employability and life skills, while incorporating CCRS content standards. We can accomplish all this with Problem-Based Learning (PBL). PBL is an approach to learning that will allow learners to learn skills that matter. These skills include critical thinking, problem-solving, processing and analyzing information, adaptability and willingness to learn. Many free, quality PBL resources are available, for use in both online and in-person instruction. Engage in truncated versions of two problems as learners - one from the Mathematics Assessment Project (MAP) and another from Dan Meyer's Three-Act Math Tasks. You will consider the continuum of Problem-Based Learning which begins with clear, packaged problems and reaches to big, messy, real-world problems, differing from other instruction. Together we will look at resources so you can find what you need to support your students' learning.

This is the second and final step in the NEDP Assessor training and is open only to those who have completed their first full NEDP portfolio within the past year, and who have been invited by the NEDP training staff.
Participants will cover all phases of the NEDP, including intake, best practices for the first appointment, and item evaluation. Upon completing this training, NEDP Advisor/Assessors will earn CASAS Certification and be qualified to conduct Portfolio Reviews at their site.
