UPLIFT: Empowerment, Voice, and Choice for All
Empowering students, staff and caregivers by giving them voice and choice is crucial in developing trauma-informed schools. When students feel valued and have a sense of agency in their learning environment it has a profound impact on their ability to heal from trauma, develop resilience, and thrive academically. Through discussion and activities, participants will learn how empowerment cultivates a sense of ownership and control, builds self-confidence, validates lived experience, fosters critical thinking skills and strengthens classrooms and communities. When a school is working to empower students and staff, it is critical that opportunities are embedded into daily practices and feedback is utilized in a meaningful, goal-oriented fashion.
