IEP Quality for General Education Administrators
Elementary | C1671
General educators play a pivotal role in ensuring the success and well-being of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This comprehensive 6-hour (one day, in-person) training is designed to equip general education administrators to support collaboration between general and special educators to craft and implement high quality IEPs within the context of Connecticut's new IEP requirements. We encourage district teams to register to contribute to the application of the concepts and strategies in the district, but registration must be completed by each individual. While this training is targeted at general education administrators, we welcome special education administrators to join their colleagues for the day to discuss current practices and how collaboration between general and special educators may be maximized.
Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the Foundation of IEPs: General educators will gain a deeper understanding of the critical role they play in the IEP process, particularly in providing essential data to inform the creation of Present Levels of Performance (PLOP), which serves as the foundation for an effective IEP.
  • Facilitate Supplemental Aids and Services (SAS): Learn how to identify and implement a variety of supportive measures, including accommodations, modifications, assistive technology, and adult support, to meet the diverse needs of students with IEPs, fostering an inclusive learning environment.
  • Inform High-Quality IEP Goals and Objectives: Understand how the classroom instructional cycle intersects with the development of high-quality IEP goals and objectives. General educators will learn how to align their teaching strategies with these goals to ensure student progress and success.
  • Collect Progress Monitoring Data: Discover effective strategies for collecting and documenting critical progress monitoring data related to IEP goals and objectives. This information is vital for tracking student growth and making data-informed decisions.
