Supporting Autism through a Trauma Informed Approach- Participants will remain curious about what they observe when supporting Neurodiverse students and its relationship to trauma-informed approaches. Objectives: Identify how trauma can affect individuals with neurodivergent conditions (e.g., autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorders) differently, and recognize the unique challenges and responses neurodiverse students may have to trauma. Identify trauma-informed strategies that are sensitive to the sensory, communication, and emotional needs of neurodiverse students, while creating safe, predictable, and nurturing environments. Develop skills to foster emotional safety, resilience, and trust in neurodiverse students through individualized supports, empathy, and consistent routines that help mitigate the impact of trauma. How to Effectively use the Family Engagement Core Competencies- Participants will learn how lead alongside families as they reflect, connect, collaborate, and advocate for families. Secondary Social Studies: Professional Learning at the New England Air Museum- Secondary Social Studies teachers will work with the Connecticut Council of Social Studies to learn instructional strategies for improving student questioning in the classroom. Teachers will also work collaboratively to analyze student achievement, using summative assessment data from the First Marking Period. The New England Air Museum will provide tours, simulations, and educational resources for teachers. BRING: Teachers should bring their laptops (with chargers) and writing utensils.
AT and the CREC Magnet Schools-Part 2 - Participants will explore the variety of features available to support students with disabilities in accessing their education. The school teams will be using case studies to drive their learning and to research tools and match identifying features to appropriate tools for trialing.
