The Hidden Disease: Gambling Disorder & Peer Support

Gambling Disorder (GD), known as the Hidden Disease, lacks adequate support and treatment options in the U.S. Those affected often face co-occurring conditions, and while treatments exist for Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and Mental Illness (MI), GD remains largely unaddressed, with alarming suicide rates among problem gamblers. This course targets peer workers, for peer workers, teaching them to spot red flags, screen for gambling woes, connect folks to the proper care, and uncover those sneaky support gaps for a timely rescue!
Objectives (appears on the evaluation form):
Course objectives: Describe responsible gambling vs. problem gambling. Identify three high-risk populations. Describe three concepts of gambling-related harm. Identify two early warning signs of gaming & gambling disorder. Utilize two screening tools available. Help resolve barriers to treatment and support. Implement peer support for GD.
