Home Visiting - Partnering with Fathers & Affirming the Roles of Family Men
This course offers an in-depth exploration of the crucial role that fathers and other family men play in the lives of children. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how paternal involvements positively impact child development, and will learn to recognize and address barriers that may hinder men's participation in family life. Through examining the unique challenges faced by teen fathers and reflecting on personal experiences, students will develop a nuanced perspective on fatherhood and its effects.
Objectives (appears on the evaluation form):

1.     Explain the value that fathers and other "family men" bring to the lives of children.

2.     Be able to articulate how fathers positively impact child development.

3.     Recognize barriers to participation in family life that men may face.

4.     Understand the specific challenges facing teen fathers.

5.     Reflect on your personal fatherhood story and deepen your awareness of how your own life experiences may affect your view of and interaction with fathers.

6.     Appreciate parenting differences that often exist between mothers and fathers and adjust your approaches and expectations accordingly.

7.     Develop strategies for talking with families about the inclusion of fathers.

8.     Explore ideas about the involvement of other positive male role models.
