ProTraxx Visits with AITE Students
|
December 30, 2006 Stamford, CT - December 18th marked the second visit ProTraxx’s President
Pat Kell has made this year to Stamford’s Academy of Information
Technology and Engineering (AITE) to share her business experience
with the students of Ray Milo’s junior class. Although the class
had just completed a course in Oracle, their interest focused on the
real-life application of their curriculum and curiosity about life
in a technology-based business.
“It’s a great opportunity to share my experiences with the students,
and Mr. Milo’s classes have welcomed me warmly and inquisitively.
Their interest in the true application of database development is
matched by their desire to understand the day-to-day operations of
a small tech company and the options the future may hold for them,”
says Pat. “Our time together provides the opportunity for the students
to ask questions about the challenges and rewards of a career in this
field. I stressed the importance and role of non-technical courses in
their learning experiences, as well as the development of their
intangible assets – the ability to reason, negotiate, lead,
coordinate and communicate – as I believe these are equally
important to their success.”
The presentation was arranged by Cynthia Kearney, a local Outreach
Facilitator for the Connecticut Career Choices Program (CCC). The CCC is a government funded initiative that partners schools and businesses to foster and promote the integration of technology in learning and close the gap between the classroom and the boardroom. Through speaking engagements, externships, hosted tours and job shadowing, the CCC aligns classroom focused curriculum with industry experiences to best prepare our youth for future employment within Connecticut’s increasingly competitive economy.
