82-school consortium effort lead by Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES)
|
Hamden, CT - Through a competitive statewide Title II Grant, ProTraxx is participating in an 82-school
consortium effort lead by Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES), a Regional Education Service Center
in Hamden, Connecticut. The two-year project involves three public school districts as well as ACES and its
magnet schools and was designed to improve student achievement through enhanced professional development
tracking. The On the Right Traxx: Improved Student Achievement through Enhanced Professional Development
Planning initiative was launched in September of 2004 by New Haven, North Haven and Hamden Public Schools.
Implementation began with the collection and cleansing of staff demographic and historical data at each
location to ensure data integrity and establish a single record of authority. This effort produced a
transcript for each user consisting of their participation in programs and credit earned, other training,
related education, tenure, position(s) or assignment(s) and more, all immediately accessible at project
launch.
The new solution allows each professional development provider to align its offerings with goals at tiered
levels – staff, school, or district-wide. In addition, each activity may be aligned with one or more of the
Connecticut’s student performance standards which are populated in the database, with district-targeted
standards noted for easy identification. The recent addition of the Teacher and Administrative Technology
Standards ensure objectives related to staff competencies are met.
To facilitate the unique program management needs of ACES as a provider to the general teaching population,
ProTraxx worked with ACES staff to design and develop a customized public portal, EzCatalog. Using the same
district created user name and password, participants search, view and enroll in programs offered by ACES
through the EzCatalog page found on the organization’s website, www.aces.k12.ct.us. Credit card and purchase
order options, related invoicing, grant funding sources, and activity evaluations are among the numerous
features and functionality of the application.
While implementation of the EzTraxx Online solution provides the operational database needed to collect
and disseminate staff data district-wide, the union of this data with student data will be captured
and analyzed through existing data mining and data warehouse tools. In addition, it will create an
environment for continued enhancement of technology skills for all, improve district-wide
communication, and promote collaborative efforts for new learning experiences.
